Our specialty-trained shoulder doctors at Steindler Orthopedic Clinic are recognized experts in the diagnosis and treatment of shoulder injuries and conditions.
Every bone in the human body is susceptible to a fracture. Strong and resilient, our bones can withstand most significant forces without injury. However, if the pressure applied to a bone is too strong or the bone is weak in health, a break or crack in the bone may occur. Cases where a bone breaks but does not damage the tissue or skin surrounding the break are considered simple or closed fractures. High-energy injuries have a higher risk of complication and are considered complex fractures which require specialized treatment.
Symptoms of a broken bone or fracture include:
- Discolored skin surrounding the affected area
- Angulation or the area may be bent at an obscure angle
- Inability to apply weight
- Inability to move the affected bone or body part
If think you have suffered a fracture that has not broken skin, schedule an evaluation with one of our specialty-trained fracture doctors by using the appointment request box or by calling (319) 338-3606.
Please note that if you have an open fracture for which the wound is open, bleeding, or the bone is exposed, please call 911 or visit the nearest emergency room.
