Local surgeon, society recognized at national orthopedic conference
IOWA CITY, Iowa (June 2013) – Dr. Brent A. Overton, orthopedic surgeon at Steindler Orthopedic Clinic and president of the Iowa Orthopaedic Society, was recognized, along with Iowa Orthopaedic Society, at the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons’ 2013 National Orthopaedic Leadership Conference.
Outgoing president Dr. Cass Igram accepted the State Society of the Year award for Iowa Orthopaedic Society’s efforts in establishing the first and only state-based orthopedic research foundation.
“Through the Iowa Orthopaedic Research Foundation, which we founded in 2011, we’re able to fund community-based clinical research that aids in scientific discovery,” Dr. Overton says. “I am so proud of our society’s dedication to expanding research opportunities and improving outcomes for our orthopedic patients.”
While encouraging collaboration between Iowa’s practicing orthopedic surgeons and medical students and residents at the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine, the Iowa Orthopaedic Research Foundation has raised approximately $30,000 in its first year.
